It has been raining a lot in this part of the world. More than 150% of 'normal' rainfall in 2023 - despite 7 consecutive weeks without a drop of water in the spring (>1200 mm rain over the year, vs 750 mm 'average').
Yet, besides the amount of water, it became clear to me that water drainage of the soils has more congestion than Paris traffic. Water kept on top of the soils. Drains weren't working. Ditches that are normally full for half a day per 3 years, no kept full for over a month.
Is that just the rainfall? Or is that lack of living soils? The Oersprong garden of Origino's testing facility- only fed with compost and only aerated by broad-fork - no puddles remained. Again, I figure that more organic matter in the soils is the remedy for so many human-caused pollution. In the garden, yet also on the bigger picture.
